Authenticity & Provenance Policy

Our Commitment

At BeART World JAPAN, authenticity is not a feature we added. It is the foundation of how we work.

We believe cultural works should remain connected to the creators, places, traditions, and stories that give them meaning. Our approach is designed to preserve that connection through creator relationships, documentation, and provenance records.

What We Mean by Authenticity

Authenticity refers to our reasonable efforts to verify the identity of creators and the origin of the cultural works offered through BeART World JAPAN.

Where applicable, this may include:

  • Direct creator relationships

  • Creator verification

  • Creator-provided documentation

  • Certificates of Authenticity

  • Provenance records

  • Supporting information regarding materials, techniques, and cultural context

Creator Verification

BeART World JAPAN works directly with creators and carefully selected partners.

Before a creator's work is offered through our platform, we seek to establish and document the creator's identity through direct communication and available supporting information.

Verification methods may vary depending on the creator, medium, location, and nature of the work.

Certificates of Authenticity

Authenticated works may be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity ("CoA").

A Certificate of Authenticity may include:

  • Creator name

  • Title of the work

  • Medium or materials

  • Date of creation (where available)

  • Unique record identifier

  • Additional provenance information

The purpose of the certificate is to document information available at the time of issuance.

Provenance Records

BeART World JAPAN maintains provenance records to help preserve information relating to the origin and history of authenticated works.

Where available, provenance records may include:

  • Creator information

  • Creation details

  • Materials and techniques

  • Geographic origin

  • Ownership or placement history

  • Cultural context and documentation

  • Certificate reference information

Provenance records are intended to support transparency and long-term documentation.

Cultural Context

Authenticity extends beyond physical objects.

Whenever possible, BeART World JAPAN documents the cultural, historical, and regional context associated with a work. This may include information about traditions, techniques, communities, and the creator's practice.

We believe preserving context is an essential part of preserving cultural value.

Verification Requests

Owners of authenticated works may contact BeART World JAPAN to request information regarding provenance records and authenticity documentation associated with a work.

Additional information may be provided when records are available and disclosure is appropriate.

Verification requests may require supporting information, including photographs, documentation, or proof of ownership.

Limitations

Authenticity assessments are based on information reasonably available at the time documentation is created.

While BeART World JAPAN takes reasonable steps to verify information and maintain records, no authenticity system can guarantee the completeness of historical information or prevent future discoveries that may affect provenance records.

Documentation reflects the information available at the time of issuance.

Continuous Improvement

As our creator network and documentation systems evolve, BeART World JAPAN may enhance its authenticity and provenance practices, recordkeeping procedures, and verification methods.

Updated practices may be reflected in future versions of this Policy.
