Born in 1981 in Asahikawa, a city cradled by mountains and cold Hokkaido winters, Yamazaki did not set out to become an artist. He set out to understand something — a material, a feeling, a question he could not quite put into words. Around 2008, he picked up a piece of deer antler. Not because the world told him it was valuable. Because something in him recognised that it was.
